To have a mother that’s here, but she’s really gone.

Lost in the disease of drugs, her return is what I long.

For her to take care of me like a mother should.

Not leave me homeless at 16, sleeping in the woods.

She left me alone to fend for myself.

Addiction is stronger than love; well that’s how she felt.

                                                     How selfish can one be?

To leave your daughter homeless is mind boggling to me.

Its bad enough she brought me into this world so rough.

She crippled my life because she wanted a snuff.

But what doesn't kill her will only make me strong.

I thank God every day that I learned from her wrongs.

And little did I know, but her addiction made a soldier out of me.

And I'll hold my faith high that one day my mom will be free.

Jenn, you are able to write about your life so rawly and refined at the same time. You have a gift :) This is a moving poem, it displays how powerful and deadly drugs grip can truly be. It makes me think of how many stories out there like this go untold, and I think your writing could be an inspiration to anyone who has had an experience like this; they will know they are not alone.

Perfection; my greatest strength and weakness.

yes, thankyou..thats what i was trying to go for....im hoping that anyone that has gone through this could here my words and realize their not alone and if i went through being homeless and having a disablity , but i can still stay postive and faith in my mom....then others can do it too.  And even if we go through something as raw as this...no matter what we go through in life, it can mold us to be a better person, as long as we take it that way!

your welcome :) I agree that a lot of life has to do with how we take/react to it, faith can be a powerful thing if we can embrace it, I am happy that you still have it for your mom it says a lot about you.
