My cousin mentions on Facebook

that she’s walking on the beach

in search of baby turtles by moonlight,

but they’ve already been born and gone.

Cross country there are no beaches to walk,

just crickets chirping at the moon

still trying to peek through the day--

serving up the quiet at dusk

when we need it the most.

A nice poem that I deleted the opening line to mentally. I have no clue why, it just felt......................... more poetic. "She's walking on the beach" gave it an earthy tone. Reading it with the Facebook opening made it feel........................................... like it was a conversation with your cousin that you had written about. I guess that's not a bad thing, but lack of sleep and not enough coffee just yet has done this to me........

I've been trying to incorporate into my writing post-modern references... we don't call on the phone, we text, we Facebook, etc. Someday in the future, people will dig this stuff... kinda like bellbottoms :) .

I kinda get it, but not really. I studied Facebook at the behest of my niece one time and decided that it's a venue I can do without. Girl is seventeen, had nine hundred Facebook people as friends.................. I don't wish to try and communicate with ninety people let alone nine hundred. Seems a bit narcissistic as well. If I don't at least make an effort to talk to someone on the phone, they are not on my Christmas card list and will not get a response regardless of manner. Try and text me and listen to the damn crickets in @Forgewright 's head. Just won't happen. I draw another line at trying to type on a miniature screen on my soooooo unnecessary Iphone............... some technology just goes beyond what I feel is a need in my life, sometimes for a good cause.................. My wife always bitched about not being able to get a hold of me when I was on the bike........... well duh....... pipes are loud and the damn phone is in the bag! I got another bike and she goes with now................ her choice and my benefit. So technology be damned in so far as I'm concerned, I don't even know two thirds of the functions on my phone. Which may be a good thing because my kid is forever fiddling with his. Me, I don't need the aggravation......... Bellbottoms???????? Depends on whose wearin em............

Retro is IN man... I use FB to stay in touch with people and share pictures with friends and family. I love texting, I hate phone calls. Texting requires no time to wait for it to ring and then plan on getting voicemail anyway... and I hate leaving messages... just freakin' text me the important stuff and leave all the fluffy "how are you?" BS out of it. So yeah, I can see how what works for me would be annoying to others :) .

Miscommunication all the way around Dear.  And ah yes time..... I remember having little of it very well............So let us then put our lives in a zip file by typing on a 1/32 scale keyboard to enunciate unclear verbiage via the written word................ half of which are written and read by dilfers that are in fact driving on the same road that I ride my bike! you've made it all very clear now @tlhopkinson! My son is right there with you. effin phone is always in his hand. And I'm so happy there is now face time on the phone..................... yes of course, now the people that I did not wish to speak with in the first place are live in camera on my Goddamn telephone!

If I ask how you are Dear, it means I truly care. If I do not care..............you hear the crickets in @Forgewright 's head..............Fluffy?            Hmmph..............

LOL, since we are polar opposites in this regard... I can see how your method annoys me and mine annoys you... I get a kick out of those kind of differences and of course, our likenesses are interesting as well. Someday I'll have time to care... for now, just text me and tell me how you are if it's important :) ... or well... tag me in Thoughts ;-) .

The details are what drew me in. Baby turtles on the beach and chirping crickets in the country paint a very serene picture. I think I have to agree about the first line-I use Facebook, but to see it written in a poem definitely caught me off guard and made me hesitant about the poem. Yet that is just me :) The ending line is perfect!

I bet we could make some great poetry from the subject of Facebook. Could be a challenge?

I am a man with one distinguishing manner. I view life as a nonstop roll by circus. Whatever my senses signal to my brain, it is received as humor.

Yeah, that's a great idea @Forgewright! Let's do it as a group.............. I'll offer the beginning.......................

Oh yea narcissistic gremlins claiming friendship in droves,

would be you offer every turn of your life,

that no one really cares to know.

Pray tell every nuance of your travels

that robbers rob your house.

And the mentally unstable then

may track you down.......................................
