I hope I'm posting in the right place. I was told on Twitter to post my link in the forums on this site. I entered a national writing contest called America's Next Author, which is a social contest decided by public votes, reviews, and sharing. I've been working very hard to get people to read and review my short story, and it has managed to stay in the top 20 out of 359 entries, but as of this morning it is currently ranked at number two! Each week for eight weeks, the person in the number one spot gets a nomination to go straight to the finals. The contest is now in week five, and if I can get to number one and stay there until Tuesday, I'll be in the finals! I'm looking for help in the form of reviews, votes, and sharing via social networking; all of this boots and maintains my ranking.
The story is called Ambient Light, and it's a sweet little tale about two almost-lovers in New York City. One is an actor, the other is a writer, and neither is any good at straight talk. I write a lot of serious drama, some thrillers, a little sci-fi and fantasy, but now and then it's good to read or write something that just puts a smile on your face. If you like witty banter and social awkwardness, give it a read and post a review on the story page to let me know what you think. Then cast a vote, and share it on every conceivable social medium. Thanks in advance!

Thank you so much!
Stopped by your page. Very cool job of organizing your networking. Hope you climb to the top spot. Excellent story. Your ability to get your characters conversing is impressive. I really like the small details of their interactions. Either way on the contest... You are a great writer!
Please, everyone, even if you have already voted, tonight I am SO INCREDIBLY CLOSE to winning the nomination that will be announced tomorrow, and your help can close whatever gap may be left. If you have voted, I thank you SO MUCH, and I'm hoping you can take a minute right now to write a quick review on the story page. If you have voted and reviewed, I'm hoping that you will share it with your friends tonight and ask them to do the same. If you have done all of those things, I hope that you will keep sharing on all of your social media, because if nothing else, if I get this nomination tomorrow, you won't have to see these posts from me until the finals! Please help me, guys. I really want this and I have been working so hard to get it. Thank you all again! http://www.ebookmall.com/author/kellene-killmer
Well, I finished in second place last week, but we can make this my week if we start with a bang and get me to the top! The higher the rank, the more exposure we get, so please help me with your votes and reviews and share my story with EVERYONE you can thing of on EVERY social platform possible. Let's make week six my week! Thank you for all of your help so far!
Things have taken a turn for the insidious over at America's Next author, as apparently some contestants feel that "review" actually means "compliment my story no matter how much help it needs, and if you don't compliment it I'm going to get my friends to egge your house. Or, since this is the internet, I will just get them to post baseless one-star reviews on your story without reading it just to show you that I can outrank you without taking an objective look at my story to see if maybe those suggestions you made were valid." I prefer for "review" to mean "review" because, well, it's a lot short, and it actually helps writers. As it turns out, some writers disagree, which makes them defensive, and that in turn makes them vindictive. I was knocked down to fourth place today as a result. Fourth out of 385 entries isn't too bad, and I can fight my way back from that, but I really, really don't want to lose this thin because of someone's personal vendetta. I submitted my story in good faith and I have put a lot of work into trying to promote it, so the idea of having that taken away by someone's bruised ego is less than pleasant.
Thank you to any and all of you who have voted and reviewed. It means so much to me!
Oh I know, but for now I'm up to my earlobes in this one, so I'm giving it everything I have! As such, I'm asking again for votes and reviews, because there will be another nominee announced tomorrow, and being in second place I REALLY want it to be me. There have been a couple of people that came out of nowhere this week, but I've been working way too hard to give up now. Thanks again to any of you who have helped me out, and I hope you enjoyed my story!
I didn't get the last nomination, but as of this afternoon I am currently in first place! If and and all who read this can continue or start to read, vote, review, and share my story, I can hold on to first place and finally win this nomination! There are only two left, and I've been working on it for weeks, so I would really love to take a break before the finals. Please, please, helps me get this nomination. Post the link in any group you can think of, on any page, on any social network, and like the posts (the likes get tracked and help to improve my rank, as I just found out). Thank you all again!
We're still having fun, and still number one! I'm so thankful for all of your votes, reviews, and shares. You have sent me to the number one spot and kept me there for two days now. Keep it up! Think original NES Mario in the water level... you have to keep hitting that button to keep him from drowning!
I fell to 3rd place, but I can still get back and keep 1st place in time to get the nomination if everyone who has not yet reviewed my story does so in the nest couple of days. All of the votes and likes are wonderful and I appreciate them immensely, so don't stop! But I get the biggest boost from tweets, facebook shares, and above all, people writing and posting positive reviews. It only takes a few minutes, but it can make all the difference! Please help! Thank you!
Online voting can be a twisted web of ratings. I have read the other entries and honestly found there place in standings wanting. When people vote for something just to raise someone that they know it lowers the integrity of the entire contest. I really hope to see your entry gain the respect it deserves. Whatever the outcome, I'm sure you will have gotten the attention of those that can appreciate you talents. This is what is important. Yes, winning the contest is great but is not the scale by which you should measure yourself.
I shared, I voted, I reviewed.
Good luck Kiddo,
