Beta Readers Needed?

Well, not for maybe a month, but I want to get a good list.

So for NaNoWriMo (National Novel Writing Month) you can kind of guess that I wrote a novel. Well you're write. And right now I'm doing some good old fashioned hand editing before I get the file from my editor to work with. And once I get a second draft of the story written I'm going to need some beta readers.

Not too many, I already have two friends of mine as betas, but I wanted to get a couple of people that don't personally know me either so I can receive some cold hard feedback on what I've written instead of "obligated to say good things" feedback like I would get from family and friends. (Although my editor is a close, way-back friend of mine that's quite harsh with her critiques ; v ; )

So I guess I'll take offers for maybe three more betas? I might have a third person already so I would just need three more so that way I can get all of the feedback and beta-edits in and compare them without having too much of a hassle for the pre-final draft of the story.

Um, so I guess you can just leave a reply if you're interested? I'll make a little list under here so that way I can update it if I get any takers (yes, if, I'm quite pessimistic on the outcome of actually getting people who want to read the story)

So, well, um. . .here we go.

Is a great idea to get as much honest feedback as you can. how long would one have to work on some edits? and how are you comparing the different versions?

I'd love to help but with my current schedule I just don't have much free time. I might actually try that same challenge next year once I'm done with school and would be happy to work with you then. Or, I may have time at the end of this semester... which isn't until end of April... sorry, not much help at the moment.

It's fine ^-^ I'm still trying to work around my schedule as well- midterms just passed and that took a good couple of weeks out of my editing time. NaNo is fun, but it really takes a lot of effort. My friends are all saying "Erin, you were basically dead during the entire month and you're doing it again willingly?" Be in for sleepless nights and writing maybe 1,000 words a day even with writer's block.

Well my deadline for this is June 30th, so I'm trying to get my edits done as soon as I possibly can so I can get the file from my editor read through both drafts (I have a physical manuscript but she has a web file of the novel) and see what edits we both made. Then I'll type up a second draft hopefully within the next month and try to get some fast readers as my beta's because I want them to try to get it done by the end of March or early April, since that's when I'll be on break and I'll have time to go through all of the different edits, pick out what I can use and decide which ones are valid and fitting to what I was trying to get across, and then I'll type up a final copy and read through it before I can send it in for publishing.

Keep us updated on your progress... if there's any chance I can jump in and help I'd love to. I also love hearing about the process. Unfortunately my break doesn't happen until around the end of April.

I'll be sure to keep updates going ^-^ For now I just have about 87 pages left to hand-edit, and then it's off to my editor to go "HA I did in two days what took you a month!" ; v ;
